Anna Sinkkonen's New York Herald Account
Miss Sinkkonen said that from the time when she had climbed into the boat until they carried her aboard the Carpathia she was in a sort of stupor. "I did notice," she said, "that the men were being held back, and only the women were allowed to get into the boats. The officers of the ship stood guard. No, I did not hear the music. Perhaps it was because I was dazed from fright. I did notice, when I opened my eyes once, some men with instruments standing on the deck. I saw the glint of the lights on their instruments. Yes, I heard the explosions."
Curator's note: This account is excerpted from an article titled, "Mother Torn from His Side, Son Stood Bravely by Ship" that consolidated stories from a number of survivors.
