Helen Bishop's New York Tribune Account

Mrs. Dickinson, wife of the Bishop of Detroit, said she was the first woman in the first boat.

"I was in the boat four hours before being picked up by the Carpathia," she said. "I was in bed at the time the crash came. I got up and dressed and went back to bed, being assured that there was no danger. There were few passengers on deck when I reached there. There was little or no panic. My husband was also saved, thank God!"
